Monkey Face Spider

IMG_3446

Ok that’s not the real name of this spider but to me, he has like a chimpanzee face!!

IMG_3446

He was beautiful!

IMG_3445

And while tiny (at around the size of a dime, legs included) he’s still the largest of his kind I’ve ever seen.

IMG_3443 They like the patio furniture, so they’re easy to find for an impromptu macro practice!

Belly Up to the Bar, Boys!

They’re lined up to enjoy a drink of my Apple Crush soda, but that’s ok, my mom taught me to share!

Spider Catches Housefly

IMG_0004

I respect and preserve sentient beings as best I can, but when it comes to houseflies….I don’t mind the spiders having their day!

Let’s just say I’m very familiar with the sound of buzzing flies, so when I heard this one struggling, I knew there was something to see!

She was wrapping him in her web, bundling him to stop the struggle…

Shortly after, she dragged him off into a crack in the ceiling.

Caterpillars Crawl the Walls

These guys hung out for days. There were probably 6 of them, but this first guy with the spikes was the only of his kind.

Turquoise Dragonfly and White Browed Chat Tyrant

IMG_0058

”It” is so cute and cuddly!

but not always

This guy appears jovial, but notice his front leg is half gone!

KitKat strikes again!

He was the most brilliant turquoise color…

 ..and he’s sizable, too!

He died the day  ”It”  took his leg.

His color progressively faded to gray as his life drained.

Now he’s part of my critter carcass collection.

Birds often hit the glass walls and drop like a stone.

Bad news when “It” is outside waiting for just such a thing to happen.

This is a White Browed Chat Tyrant. Common, and this one is still alive.

kITkat rants madly whenever I release her catches.

Creature Feature

Regrettably, I haven’t been very active with blogging or using my camera these past few weeks, but I do have some new critters for you, interested reader.

Spider behind the Casa.

The spider who was stalking me this evening. Part of the reason I am awake at midnight.

I couldn’t get a good shot of him because it’s so dark!

Spiderman comes, on candy striped legs…and it’s much too late to get away or turn on the light, Spiderman is having me for dinner tonight!

He’s big enough for me to be concerned.

Another one of my rescues from Kit Kat’s deadly claws n jaws.

Kit Kat’s more rotund victims will fight back.
Unfortunately, I am much less tolerant of a mouse in the house, as rodent control is her job after all.

Livin large inside a Belladonna!

When they realized my camera was inside the flower, they began to come after my lens!

Another spider on the window.

Bee Happy! With a face like this, I can’t help but smile!

Bee Yourself.

 Tarantula Wasp.

This is the guy that will sting and stun a tarantula, then drag it back into it’s burrow to lay and incubate it’s eggs inside the abdomen.

The terrorantula that we rescued nearly 2 months ago, is still responsive when you touch him!

Clearly, I would not want to be stung by one of these guys, but he got into the house this day.  They move very fast and rarely sit still to pose for photographs, which is a shame because they’ve long legs, coffee colored wings and brilliant, shiny blue bodies.

Cool Mr. Spider who lives above the fireplace, all covered in dust….waitin on a snack.

Maybe it’s part of his m.o….his camoflage.

I was out doing laundry last month and this guy came by for a visit…and apparently, a taste of my Haflinger clog!

He’s a wise looking and a noble fellow, I think.

I felt really great about hanging out, but then Kit Kat came along and tried to eat him, so he bailed.

A special fly snacking on a jelly stain…

KUNG FU FLY KICKS WITH POWER!

Roll up off my jelly, bro!

That’s all for now, folks!

Creepy Crawlies Everywhere!

IMG_0052

We’ve got a few spiders that hang out on our patio table. They’re very tiny and they all have spots like deer.

I caught this guy toolin’ around on some flowers.

Wherever there’s Terrorantulas, there’s Terrorantula Wasps. We think this guy got stung but before he could be dragged into his hole where the wasp would plant her babies to feed off his abdomen. One of the kids found him, so he’s resting/dying in a container on my shelf. As of this morning, day 3, he is showing very little response to stimulation. Sadly, I think we’ll lose this baby, but he will become part of our growing collection of critters for display.

The kids know I’ve developed a fascination with insects, so one day Sergio brought this guy in for me to see. He’s actually a type of scorpion. Check out the barbs on his back legs!

We found this guy in a pair of pants this morning.

Is that a scorpion in your pants or are you just happy to see me?

I found this guy on the floor next to the jade collection. With that proboscis, I’ll call him a mosquito.

Wasp on the living room floor.

Black n Blue Bee pollinating his corner of the world! They’re huge in size and everywhere!

We have these ants all around the property. They’re busy bodies….hard to get a photo when they’re constantly moving! He looks pretty mean…glad I stayed on his good side!

This guy was hanging out on the wind chime by the restrooms.

Days later, Darrin found his cousin in one of the bungalows. He’s now part of my growing collection on critters on display.
